Saying Goodbye to the Paci!

Kyle and I were so glad we chose to give Owen a paci when he was younger, it has helped us and him so much... but it's time to start growing up! Before baby #2 comes (we find out the gender on April 15th) we have a few things that Owen needs to work on: potty training, saying goodbye to the paci and sleeping in his big boy bed. Well, we can mark one of those off the list! Following in his big cousin Noah's footsteps, we took Owen to Target to "buy" a toy with his paci.

We collected all of his pacis and put them in a bag and it was off to the store.
One thing I didn't consider was the fact that I have never bought Owen a toy at the store with him right there, so when we asked him to pick out a toy he wanted to take home he did what we usually do... he played with the toys then put them away. First we played with the baseball bat and helmet (ugh, he picked out pink... we put those back quickly!)
He considered the trucks...
He thought long and hard about the tennis racquet.
45 minutes later we settled on the baseball glove and foam balls!!
But now it was the moment of truth... "paying" for the glove meant saying goodbye to his pacis forever. We had talked about this all day so he was well aware of what he was about to do.
The sweet lady at Target accepted his pacis (along with a swipe of the credit card) and Owen handed them over like a big boy! We were so proud of him!
When we got home Owen told his daddy, "Have to play catch together in the backyard together." It was late so he went to bed with only a little whimpering, and his new baseball glove stayed in bed too, but no paci!! If you ask him today where his paci is he will tell you, "Paci is all gone. It's in the trashcan at Target."

I love this story so much! We are definitely using this tactic when Ila is of age:)
