Last week we had the opportunity to visit Martha's Vineyard with Kyle's parents. Dad T has served at Providence for 14 years so they have allowed him to go on a 2 month sabbatical! We are so thankful for PBC and for Mom and Dad T allowing us to crash their sabbatical for a week!
After we let Owen pack his own bag with whatever he wanted... lots of paci's and bananas... we were off.
We spent our first night in Boston after the boys watched a Red Sox game (hence the matching hats!) Here's Owen with his grandma and grandpa on the ferry ride over to the Vineyard.
...and Owen steering the ferry. I heard him saying, "Sheesh, this boat captain thing is child's play!"

Once on the island we visited the Gingerbread houses. People live in these for real! There are hundreds of them all in a circle around The Meeting House (an open air church tent.) It was built when the island was used as for summer revivals. This one was my personal favorite, but definitely one of the biggest ones. Most were about half this size and so very quaint.
This week Owen traveled in style in his new stroller. Most of the time he was enjoying the view of the wheels and the pavement, but once we caught him totally chillin'!
This was the little cottage we stayed in while we were there. I think it was the 3rd oldest cottage on the island which means it was built sometime in the 1800's. The kitchen was straight out of The Bridges of Madison County. Can you picture it?
Owen experienced many "firsts" on this trip. His first airplane ride, first ferry boat ride, first time to the beach and his first carousel ride. This is the oldest carousel in the country. Each time it goes around you're supposed to grab a ring and the person who gets the one brass ring gets a free ride the next time. We tried, but didn't get it.
We took the ferry from Martha's Vineyard over to the island of Chappaquiddick. This is the site of the Ted Kennedy incident/scandal where he got "disoriented" and flew off of the bridge into the water killing the young lady in the car with him.
Then...

and now...
Since there is not a whole lot to do on the island we decided to visit Mytoi the Japanese Garden... what the heck! Here's Kyle getting "disoriented" on one of the bridges. In the spirit of the garden and the Teddy scandal he even made up a haiku. (Ask him about it!)
The view of the Edgartown Harbor and lighthouse from Chappy.
