Choo Choo! Owen's First Birthday!

We did a train theme for Owen's first birthday.  My friend Anna gave me a train cake pan when O was born (what a perfect gift, she knows me so well!) so that's how we chose the theme.  We also drew train tracks with sidewalk chalk up to the front door.

We waited all year to let Owen taste sugar so that the moment with his first birthday cake would be special.  Here he is saying "hot" to the candle!
Our small family birthday party exploded!!
Cousins Ella and Noah were so helpful when it came time to open gifts.  Our makeshift toy collection of things we've made or turned into toys has grown considerably to include actual toys now!  Toys that light up and make noise!  After his birthday was over Owen danced for the first time thanks to Uncle Scott and Aunt Chan's fridge farm!
Here's Owen with my whole side of the family:  Mama Lew, Dad, Owen, Daddy Clyde, Daddy Mac, and Mom.  We were so blessed to have Owen's great grandparents join us for his big day!  Kyle's grandmother Nana was also with us!  What a special celebration!
Here's his one year update:
  • 21 lbs 6 1/2 oz. (35%)
  • 30 1/4 inches tall (65%)
  • Head Circumference= 47.3 cm (75%)
  • He's walking like a crab (right leg first and arms out like a jouster)
  • His favorite words are: hot (this is also his word for "light"), mama, dada, bye bye, more, book, ball, nana (banana), ugh-oh and I thought I heard "off" this morning
  • He can go to a toy if you ask for it, turn off the light, close the door, do the laundry (seriously, he's really good at it!)
  • He carries a bunch of little things in one hand while he walks (right now his favorites are a balloon on a string, a razor handle (no razor, don't worry!), a pen, and a remote maybe not all of those things at once, but some combination of them
  • His favorite toys are an amish push-toy and the fridge toys that sing songs.  He has a farm and an alphabet toy that attach to the fridge and he loves to push the buttons on both of these so that they play their songs at the same time, although he'll only dance to "Skip to my Lou"
  • He also loves to pull things out and put them back in their spot.  He is very meticulous!
  • He loves to eat: mandarin oranges, pears, beans, graham crackers, goldfish, bananas, applesauce, black-eyed peas, string cheese, yogurt... usually he'll eat whatever we are having and he eats A TON!!
Happy First Birthday Big Boy!
